Respite, overnight and 24-hour care

Take a break while a trusted PSW cares for your loved one, for an afternoon, overnight, or around the clock, anywhere in Alliston, Barrie and Simcoe County.

Respite care

A break for family caregivers

Caring for a parent or partner is hard work. Respite care gives you time to rest, work, run errands or go away, knowing your loved one is safe.

  • A few hours a week, or several days in a row
  • Cover while you are on vacation
  • Personal care, meals, companionship and outings
  • Rides to medical and social appointments

Overnight and 24-hour care

Support through the night and around the clock

Some people need help at night: getting to the bathroom safely, settling after waking, or just someone close by. Our PSWs can stay overnight so the family can sleep.

For people who need someone with them all the time, we arrange 24-hour care with PSWs working in shifts. It is often used after a hospital stay, during an illness, or at the end of life.

How it works

  1. Call or send a message. Tell us who needs care, where, and when.
  2. We plan the care together. We learn the person’s routine, health needs and preferences, and agree on a schedule.
  3. We match the right Care Pro by skills, availability and, where we can, language.
  4. Care starts. Each visit is checked in and timed in the Bamwan app, and you confirm the hours.

Care you can trust

  • PSWs, RPNs and RNs who are screened, including police and vulnerable sector checks
  • Nurses registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Staff who are bonded, insured and covered by WSIB
  • A local office in Alliston and a phone line answered 24/7

Common questions

How far ahead should I book respite care?

As early as you can for planned breaks such as a vacation. For urgent needs, call us any time and we will tell you how soon we can start.

What happens during an overnight shift?

The PSW stays with your loved one through the night and helps with toileting, repositioning, comfort and safety, then shares notes with the family in the morning.

Can 24-hour care be short-term?

Yes. Many families use 24-hour care for a few days or weeks, for example after a hospital stay, and then reduce the hours.

Do you help with rides to appointments?

Yes. We can help with transportation to medical and social appointments. Ask us when you book.
