Hospital private duty and bedside sitters
Why families hire a private sitter
Hospital staff care for many patients at once. A private sitter gives your loved one one-on-one attention, especially when they are:
- Confused, restless or living with dementia
- At risk of falling or pulling at lines
- Anxious, lonely or unable to call for help
- More comfortable with someone who speaks their language
- In hospital overnight, when family cannot be there
What the sitter does
- Stays at the bedside, day or night
- Keeps the person calm and reoriented
- Helps with meals, drinks and comfort
- Alerts the nurses right away when something changes
- Keeps the family updated
Every hospital has its own rules for private caregivers. Our staff follow them and work alongside the hospital team.
When it is time to go home, the same caregiver can often continue with PSW care at home.
How it works
- Call or send a message. Tell us who needs care, where, and when.
- We plan the care together. We learn the person’s routine, health needs and preferences, and agree on a schedule.
- We match the right Care Pro by skills, availability and, where we can, language.
- Care starts. Each visit is checked in and timed in the Bamwan app, and you confirm the hours.
Care you can trust
- PSWs, RPNs and RNs who are screened, including police and vulnerable sector checks
- Nurses registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Staff who are bonded, insured and covered by WSIB
- A local office in Alliston and a phone line answered 24/7

Common questions
Can a sitter start tonight?
Call us any time on (416) 831-7506. Our line is answered 24/7, and we will tell you how soon we can have someone at the bedside.
Which hospitals do you cover?
Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, and hospitals in Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto. Ask us about others.
Do I need the hospital’s permission?
Most hospitals welcome private sitters but have their own rules. Let the unit know, and our caregiver will check in with the nurse in charge.
Should we book a PSW or a nurse?
Most families book a PSW for company and safety. If your loved one needs clinical care beyond what the hospital provides, ask us about a nurse.
Need someone at the bedside?
